These two words, ?show kindness,? are key in any relationship that last

Scripture Reading:? 2 Samuel 9:1-7

Key Verse: 2 Samuel 9:1

David asked, ?Is there anyone still left of the house of Saul to whom I can show kindness for Jonathan?s sake??

Our scripture tells the story of a friendship that lasted until both men?s deaths.? David, now king, wanted to show kindness to Saul?s household.? Remember, King Saul tried his best to kill David; chased after him with the king?s army to kill him!? Why would David want to show kindness to this mean, crazed man?? It was all because of the deep bond David had with King Saul?s son, Jonathan.? It was their friendship that David had such precious memories of.

These two words, ?show kindness,? are key in any relationship that is going to last.? It is true in any friendship and any marriage.? We show kindness easily and naturally at first in our relationships, but our human tendency is to start taking a long term relationship for granted.? We may still feel good about the relationship, but we fail to show it.? We start to assume the other person knows how we feel.? Parents can do this with their kids if they are not careful.? They know how deeply they love their kids, so they assume their kids know it as well!

The truth is, in all relationships, we must continually show kindness to keep the relationship growing and healthy!? No one can read minds and we all need assurances in our relationships.? (Continued)

Father, remind me to express and show kindness to those I care about today!? Thank you for your expressions of love to me. In Jesus? name, amen.
